Trent Bennett

Trent joined Nugent Law Office to advocate on behalf of the working class, representing both unionized and non-unionized workers in a variety of legal matters. His commitment to social justice drives his passion for contributing to a more equitable society.

A graduate of the University of Calgary Faculty of Law (2023), Trent received the inaugural Markham Silver QC Criminal Justice Memorial Fund, awarded to the graduating student who demonstrated a commitment to criminal justice, and a dedication to advocating on behalf of low-income or marginalized groups. This recognition was a result of his volunteer work with the student legal clinic and Indigenous Law Students Association. Trent continued to work in public interest law during his articles at Calgary Legal Guidance, where he provided legal advice and representation to members of the community in need.

Trent has achieved successful resolutions for his clients at trial in the Criminal, Civil, and Family divisions of the Alberta Court of Justice. He also takes great pride of the work he has done in administrative law, earning positive outcomes in a judicial review in the Court of King’s Bench, and in various administrative tribunals appearing on behalf of exploited tenants and workers.

Before attending law school, Trent studied at both the University of Alberta and MacEwan University here in Edmonton. He funded his education through a wide variety of jobs, including positions as a court clerk, wildland firefighter, curling instructor, delivery driver, landscaper, mover, and residential framer.

Outside of work, Trent is an avid sports fan, always happy to chat about anything NFL, or his beloved Edmonton Oilers. Although injuries forced him into an early retirement, Trent was once a dedicated rugby player, which provided opportunities to play on clubs in England, Ireland, and Vancouver Island. Now, his arthritic body favours gentler pursuits like yoga and rec hockey.
