Kelly Lanyi-Bennett

Kelly joined Nugent Law in 2025 and is grateful for the opportunity to practice union and employee side labour and employment law. The idea of becoming a lawyer did not dawn on Kelly until later in life. She was the first person on her father’s side of the family to attend university, and did not know any lawyers growing up. However, she always valued rules, fairness and helping others and is thankful to have found a challenging and rewarding career that aligns well with those values.

Prior to joining the Nugent Law team, Kelly articled and practiced at a regional full-service law firm. She became interested in employment law early in her articles and after being called to the bar in 2022, maintained a practice focused on employment litigation. She has experience representing clients before various tribunals and courts, including the Alberta Human Rights Commission, the Alberta Court of Justice, and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta.

Kelly graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law with distinction in 2021. She received several awards throughout her studies, including the Norman J Pollock QC Prize in Advocacy and the Catherine Miller Community Service Award. Before attending law school, Kelly received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning & Art and Design from the University of Alberta and then worked for two years as a Volunteer Manager at a local not-for-profit. Volunteerism has always been an important part of Kelly’s life. During law school she completed a placement at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre, providing pro bono legal services to low-income Albertans, where she now volunteers as a volunteer lawyer. She also volunteered with Student Legal Services, providing legal information at local shelters, and co-chaired the U of A Faculty of Law Women’s Law Forum. Kelly is currently an Executive Member of the Canadian Bar Association Alberta Women Lawyers’ Forum.

Outside of work Kelly enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, and their family and friends, getting outside, eating good food, and exploring her favourite city, Edmonton.
