Jacob Axelrod


Jake joined Nugent Law Office in 2015, shortly after graduating from law school at the University of Victoria. He was called to the Alberta bar in 2016. Jake acts for unions and employees on a wide range of labour and employment law matters. He has experience dealing with wrongful dismissals, human rights violations, disability benefits disputes, union certification applications, and many other workplace issues. Jake has appeared before labour arbitrators, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, all levels of Court in Alberta, as well as other adjudicative bodies.

Jake is originally from North Vancouver, BC. Prior to pursuing the practice of labour and employment law, he attended Queen’s University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political studies and a Masters of Industrial Relations. While attending law school in Victoria, Jake served as president of the University of Victoria labour law club. He also spent a semester volunteering full time at the Victoria Law Centre, a legal clinic that provides free legal services to low income residents of Victoria. Jake has continued to provide pro-bono legal services in Edmonton as a volunteer lawyer at the Edmonton Community Legal Clinic.

Outside of work, Jake plays tennis, squash and Ultimate frisbee. He is an avid fan of most professional sports. He also enjoys hiking, and considers himself a film buff.
